Editorial: Liberation

• All defendants have been declared guilty, most of them for sexual assaults on Gisèle Pelicot, with added aggravating circumstances such as the action being done in a group and with the administration of substances.
• There is no acquittal, evidence of a positive evolution of justice from the first detection by the gendarmerie to the arguments of the prosecutor of Mazan.
• Although convictions are handed, 94% of rape complaints are filed away.
• The separate trial for each crime upholds the individualization of punishment.

Conclusion: Despite the conviction, there remains a need for something more from justice, as evidenced by the expectations that sprung up following the trial, in Avignon as well as globally.
