Editorial: Liberation

• Mahmoud Abbas is hiding in his fortress in Ramallah, inoperative and powerless.
• He leads an old and corrupt Palestinian Authority where nobody questions anything for fear that a patiently constructed edifice will fall.
• He is fighting behind closed doors for nothing to change while his people, held hostage by Hamas, are attacked by the Israeli army in Gaza and the settlers in the West Bank.
• He is known to not be the man for the "day after" this conflict, this is a certainty.
• If not Abbas, then who will it be? The current challenge is to find a credible leader.

Conclusion: The Palestinian political landscape is at a critical, uncertain, and dangerous juncture. With Abbas perceived as weak and inoperative, the search for a new leader presents a significant challenge.
